Sustainable housing is the need of the world today! Construction technologies are developing at a fast pace and newer cost-effective materials are being tried out. Toughie Engineering, Kerala has pioneered the manufacture of Cement interlocking bricks with a dual locking system to replace normal bricks. Cement interlocking bricks are a total solution for reliable, cost-effective, and durable construction material.

Blocks for future

Toughie Cement Interlocking bricks in Cochin are the enhanced form of conventional bricks. They are super-finished light grey high-density high strength blocks with heavy load-bearing capacity. Made up of a mixture of crusher dust, Ordinary Portland Cement, 6 MM baby metal (aggregate), and water, these blocks are manufactured by using dual compression hydraulic technology developed by Toughie. After 7 days of water curing, the blocks are construction-ready.

Each Cement interlocking brick has a dual locking mechanism that is constructively designed to lock itself to the other bricks around without the use of mortar. The ingenious self-locking is achieved using the shear-key and lock mechanism developed by Toughie Engineering. The shape of the shear-key will vary and a complimentary lock is provided on the opposite side of the brick.

The interlocking mechanism helps auto-fix among the blocks which increase structural stability, thus reducing the requirement of mortar or slurry. As Cement is becoming expensive and sand is getting scarce, interlocking bricks come as a great option in construction. The walls made up with interlocking bricks hardly require cement plaster as the pre-pointed straight masonry and smooth brick finish renders an elegant and attractive look.

Interlocking bricks help to build a stable building structure that reduces the cost and time of the construction process. When the requirement for cement mortar is reduced it translates into minimized material costs. Water consumption is also less compared to conventional bricks as it requires much less mortar /slurry.

Interlocking blocks are most versatile as they are compatible with mostly all window, door, slab, and roofing systems that are used with conventional systems. Load transfer in Cement interlocking bricks is achieved by shear transfer and gravity.
