Wall construction in Kerala has been revolutionized by the introduction of interlocking bricks from Toughie Engineering. Due to their unique design, these bricks lock into each other without using cement mortar to bind them together. They create a structurally stable wall, substantially reducing construction costs and time. Nowadays most builders are using interlocking bricks for fast wall construction on a low budget.

Toughie Engineering, a prime interlocking bricks manufacturer in Ernakulam invites you to check out Interlocking bricks construction techniques with us.

Interlocking bricks are available in different sizes and each brick has grooves and locks on its sides that fit each other forming a block wall. Cement interlocking bricks and soil interlocking bricks are available for construction. Cement Interlocking bricks are made by compressing a mixture of crusher dust, Ordinary Portland Cement, 6 MM baby metal (aggregate), and water.

Construction using interlocking bricks

Interlocking bricks construction techniques are slightly different from standard bricks construction.

  1. A normal heavy basement is to be laid down first.
  2. On top of the basement, one layer of normal baked bricks is placed with a width exactly matching the thickness of the proposed interlocking bricks wall.
  3. Interlocking bricks are neatly placed over the bricklayer carefully.
  4. The edges of the roof should project out a little more than the wall to ensure that rainwater does not flow through the walls.
  5. The corners of the wall are to be completely plastered using cement so that adequate pressure is there from the sides of the building for the bricks to bond together. Plastering ensures that the interlocking is placed with adequate pressure from all four boundaries.
  6. External walls need not be painted but the gaps have to be filled with like-colored cement.
  7. Before plastering the internal wall, the surface should be made rough as the interlocking brick surface is relatively smooth. Plastering the internal wall should be done before painting.
